Symbol: 3
CHI: Sustenance and Continuance of Fundamental Power
The character for “CHI” is formed by a cross and a small circle positioned at the top of the vertical line, representing the latent realm. As with “KA,” the absence of the large circle “WA” indicates that its meaning is not material or phenomenal.
The small circle in “CHI” is located at the same position as in “MI” (3). It is also at the same position as “RA,” which will be discussed later and carries the core intention of “appearing.” From these placements, “CHI” signifies that the power of “KA” appears (RA) up to “MI.” Since the action of “KA” is universal, “CHI” can be interpreted as embodying the core intention of maintenance and continuance.
In essence, “CHI” symbolizes the process where “KA,” the universe’s fundamental power, manifests in the phenomenal world as “MI”—a specific form or function—and that state is perpetually maintained. It suggests not just a temporary appearance, but the constant flow and sustained existence of life force and energy, hinting at Katakamuna’s view of life and the universal laws of the cosmos.
