The progression from “HI” (one) to “YA” (eight), followed by the addition of another “HI,” which links back from “YA” to “HI,” is expressed as “eight plus one equals nine.” This conveys the core intention that the cycle of creation, HI FU MI YO I MU NA YA KO TO (the ten sonic elements), repeats ceaselessly.
